Maintenance, Repair, and Enhancement
Mission Mobility service addresses three system elements: maintenance, repair, and enhancement of products.
Equipment occasionally breaks and needs repair and/or periodic maintenance.
We specialize in making equipment better: more effective, more durable, and more valuable to the end user.
Repair Needed?
How the Mission Mobility Team Works
A CASE IN POINT
Our expert team can diagnose and repair connectors, cords, cables and more - quickly and accurately.
PROBLEM: FAULTY CABLE AND CONNECTOR
Here’s what happened:
While inspecting this sample cable, the Mission Mobility team observed the cable was not "Banded" to the connector. This and any other cables built in a similar manner needed to be repaired or "upgraded" to have the banding properly attached. Without the banding, these cables would have failed quickly as the 20 small gauge wires connected to the back of the connector with no other support were stressed and shorted (like an arm only connected to the body via veins and arteries vice tendons, ligaments and skin - might hold for a little while, but with only slight use .... you can imagine the damage). The "outer shroud" was unattached to the connector (it should be tightly "shrunk" around it) was loose enough to pull back from the connector to expose the empty area where the band should be installed.
SOLUTION:
Here are components of a diagnostic report recently given to a customer with a faulty cable for a Tablet J6 Display Port.
A 1-page sheet with key info to order parts and build the cable: Link Here
See Photos (LEFT) of the build process showing methods to connect, seal, band and cover the cable
Connect: all conductors "pinned and placed" in the 26-pin connector.
Sealed: prior to banding and covering the connected wires, the outer shield wires are pulled back and the cable end is sealed with heat shrink.
Banded: the outer wire shielding is cross-wrapped under the metal band and then the band is crimped tightly. The banding tool tightens the band to a specific torque setting established by Glenair; any less torque and it loosens, any more torque and the shielding wires snap. This cannot be done without the manufacturer's recommended tools.
Covering: the outer cover is heat shrunk to be snug on the connector and the cable, yet flexible to allow the cover to absorb initial stresses, if pulled.
Finished product, one overhead view and connector view. We put a clean flexible cover over of the 26-pin (vice the lack of a full cover on the previously built cables).
